Cancer: The facts

Posted on 30 July 2008 in Uncategorized by karaleesbazblog6794

The disease tends to affect older people - but can strike at any time.

It’s easy to get swept up in the romance of the holidays and the joy of being with the one you love. For all those couples who will become engaged during this season and even through early next year, there’s more to consider about making a lifetime commitment than ring sizes and wedding details. To set yourselves up for a lifetime of success, you need financial guidance to prepare you for financial issues you’ll face during marriage.

It may not seem like it’s as much fun as selecting honeymoon destinations and tasting cakes, but coming together on financial issues before you come together as husband and wife is crucial to mapping your future. You have to know how and be willing to deal with the bottom line, both literally and figuratively. All couples will eventually face some kind of financial challenge or life-altering decision regarding money. No one is immune, no matter how healthy their bank accounts are.

Think about it. How many couples do you know who have struggled with finances and even divorced over them? To protect yourselves from joining the statistics of those who split over money, you have to learn how to discuss finances openly and honestly with your soon-to-be spouse.

Money is generally considered a taboo topic. It’s not something discussed in polite conversation, according to our social norms. But your future spouse is a crucial exception to this unwritten rule. Maybe you don’t know where to start. Or maybe you are like me and are embarrassed about how you have handled your finances in the past. Maybe you have bad credit; your spouse deserves to know because your rating can affect his.

There are countless reasons to avoid the topic, but you have one very vital incentive to broach the subject: Your marriage’s stability may very well depend on your ability to talk these things out. Communication is the foundation of handling financial issues, as well as any other challenges you’ll face as a team.

When I think back in my own family and friends, I know of several who would have benefited from guidance from a counselor who was also a financial expert. If they had someone outside of their immediate circle of friends considering their best financial interests, someone who provided an unbiased opinion, they would more than likely be together today.

I recently interviewed Sherry Julius, a woman whose first marriage ended in divorce mostly due to money problems. She told me that if she’d entered that marriage with the financial know-how and communication skills covered in my new program, “The Debt Stops at the Altar,” she thinks things might have worked out differently. She said she would’ve known what to do when money crises arose and how to work with her partner to get through them rather than fight her way out. Sherry said, “I know for myself, this is going to help so many couples, because it is helping me even in my second marriage.”

Whether this is your first marriage or you have been married 20 years, financial challenges arise at different stages. Your emotions can cloud your judgment in difficult situations, especially if things center on the person you love most. Let me share this: When we make decisions based on emotions, it often leads to further damage and conflict. We usually do not see the long term clearly or take the time to consider the consequences of our actions when our emotions are too strong. We just act out of pain, frustration and sometimes even pressure. That starts a vicious cycle of further pain and frustration.

Take the time to consider the relationship you want, the marriage you want for a lifetime and how you’re going to create that. If you are getting 30 minutes or one hour of counseling on finances during pre-marital counseling, unless you’re a financial professional, that’s probably not enough. You need more to protect your marriage and foster a healthy dialog with your spouse over a topic that causes strife and stress for so many of us.

Don’t take the risk of setting your marriage up to fall into those statistics of marriages that fail because of money. Set yourself apart from those ugly numbers by taking control of your finances and the way you and your partner relate to each other through mature, healthy lines of communication.

Financial challenges have no boundaries. I know of many couples, myself and my husband included, who have weathered many financial challenges during the first year of marriage. If you are not communicating about finances before you enter into marriage, these very challenges can tear your marriage apart. But with a little preparation and a lot of honest discussion, you can and will have the strong, loving bond that will last a lifetime. Communication about finances is the first step.

MPs warn of energy price impact

Posted on 30 July 2008 in Uncategorized by karaleesbazblog6794

Rises in energy bills will have serious consequences for millions of households, a committee of MPs warns.

It’s incredibly easy to get ripped off from male enhancement products. Most notably are the pills and the pumps. It may seem obvious, but the promises from advertisements can easily make one think twice: “Well, maybe there is something to these things…” Only an empty wallet and failed results is most often the bottom line. Here’s what works and what doesn’t:

1. If it sounds too good or too easy to be true, it is. Popping a pill or mixing some sort of herbal powder together sounds just way, way too easy. If this is all anyone needed for actual results, then everyone would be experiencing positive results. And the pharmaceutical companies would be all over the easy results product. But of course there is more hype than actual results. And any minor results from pills and powders tend to always be from the placebo effect.

2. If it looks dangerous, it probably is. This refers to many of the male enhancement “pumps” that you sometimes see advertised. Using some sort of contraption or machine to do the work is just too risky and should be avoided for the obvious reasons of safety. Plus many of these pumps have proven to have very little positive male enhancement results anyway.

3. If you have to actually “work” towards results, then you will likely achieve those results. Now we get into what actually works for male enhancement. Performing exercises, all by yourself - no machines and no pumps - can give you positive and very noticeable gains. Again, it does take some work in the form of performing certain enhancement exercises throughout the week, but there are now programs available which have figured out how to get the best results in the least amount of time possible. One such enhancement exercise program I list below.

Here is enlargement exercise information as well as a program which guarantees a 1-4 inch increase - http://penis-enlarging-exercise.com/

This is the most legit resource available for true, real world enlargement results, all through performing specific enlargement exercises - http://penis-enlarging-exercise.com/

Amy Winehouse returns home

Posted on 30 July 2008 in Uncategorized by karaleesbazblog6794

Singer Amy Winehouse is sent home from hospital after a reaction to medication, her spokesman confirms.

The words “limousine” and “chauffeur” have been used since before the early stages of the 20th Century, when horse-drawn carriages and trains required uniformed professional drivers to man the horses and steam engines.

The word “limousine” originated from the Limousine region of France where shepherds use an over-sized, hooded garment to protect themselves from the cold weather. The drivers of automobiles later utilized such garments as they sat in the open and exposed front seats, while their bosses or the owner of the vehicle rode luxuriously in the rear seats.

There is a clear stylishness to the limousine and an air of mystery that surrounds the people behind the tinted windows. Ever since the golden age of automobiles in the early 1900s, people have been mesmerized by the elegant and, at times, daring designs of the limousines and town cars in which royalty, movie stars, and industry bigwigs are driven.

Early Beginnings Of The Stretch Limo

After the First World War, most of the world had their fill of the sedan chairs and hose-drawn carriages, then the stretch limousine came into the picture. The first “Stretch Limousine” was created in Forth Smith, Arkansas in the United States in 1928 by a coach builder named Armbruster. The stretch limos were generally utilized to transport famous “big band” leaders, such as Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, and orchestras, as well as their musical instruments and other equipment, across the country. As a result, the early stretch cars were called “big band buses”.

In 1962, Armbruster fused with Stageway Coaches of Cincinnati in Ohio, USA, and became Armbruster-Stageway Coachbuilders, and in 1974, the first six-door funeral limousines were built on Cadillac chassis. Eventually, the product line of Lincoln Stretch Limousines was included due to the growing popularity of Lincoln within the limousine and funeral service realm, however the main mission statement for the cars and the company was simply “to move people from place to place, only in larger cars”.

The advent of the 60s and 70s made limousines more popular, as they were increasingly used for general use by American presidents and movie stars, and due to their increasing popularity, more custom coachbuilders began trading. In the late 80s, Federal Coach bought out Armbruster-Stageway, although the tradition that began nearly eighty years ago still remains.

The Wisdom Behind The Stretch Limousine

The wisdom behind the creation of the stretch limo boils down to creating a unique design. Generally, stretch limousines are used to transport more than three passengers, excluding the driver. These limousine types may contain extra amenities such as expensive audio players, flat-screen television sets, video players, and bars, often with refrigerators.

There are occasions when a coach builder or car designer would develop the “ultimate” stretch limo, by adding more amenities that are somehow impractical, but would definitely make a significant design statement. One unique design includes using double rear axles to support the weight of an operational hot tub. Most coach builders can perform aftermarket extensions on luxury sedans and SUVs.

These extensive, and often expensive, limousine conversions have been performed on several luxury vehicles, namely Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Chrysler, Ford, Holden, Hummer, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, and Rolls-Royce. In the United States and Canada, the most popular and commonly used vehicles for stretch limousine conversions are the Lincoln Town Car, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2, and the Lincoln Navigator. Sometimes, even the common Corvette and VW Bug could be stretched to accommodate up to 10 passengers.

Slimming patch net advert banned

With the increase in cut-throat competition of the corporate world, it is important for each one of us to promote our business or the products and services that we are offering is the best way possible. As we all know, ‘out of sight is out of mind’, is something that applies to the entire corporate world. With the advancement in technology, the Internet has become a common medium to search for information and to market one’s business organization through search engine optimization.

These days, every large and small business enterprise has its website promoted using Internet Marketing. This is generally because it is more convenient for people to shop from their homes at the click of a mouse. Hosting a website also increases the reach of the manufacturer or supplier to the target customers worldwide.

As many choices that are made available to the Internet users for the same products and services, it is not practically possible for them to search each and every link. So, to make it easy for the users, search engine optimization is the technique that is used by the search engines to arrange the results in accordance with the keyword entered by the user in the order of preference. This is why, there is a need to make a site search engine optimized according to the factors that affect search engine rankings or factors that give a higher SEO ranking to a site. This enables a business organization to reach its target customers by increasing its visibility with the help of search engines.

Some of the factors that give a higher SEO ranking are - articles, keywords stuffing, content, exchange links and many others. The most important of all is the content. The content is what users actually want, so it is very essential to ensure the originality of the content. It should be relevant content, written in simple language to ensure that the readers do not have to make an effort to comprehend what is actually being said. Otherwise, this will reduce the interest of the readers and they may prefer any other site to get the same information.

Keyword stuffing is another thing that is very important. Scatter the keywords in the content of the website that is recognized by the search engines. Another point is to include articles on your website that gives information about the products and services your website is offering. This information, conveyed through articles, can talk about the benefits of the products/services that you are offering and may convince the potential customers to make the purchase.

You can also give exchange links from other sites for reference to the users and also give the link to your site on other related websites. However, one should keep in mind that the sites that you are exchanging your links with are based on the same theme.

Alt tag can also be included on your website. Though images are not read by search engines, if you add an alt tag, it will make available texts to the pictures, so that images can also be indexed or recognized by the search engines. This also makes the website user-friendly for users who use text-only browsers.

Are audiences clapping in time at the Proms?

We hear a lot about Search Engine Optimization or SEO these days. Most people not directly connected with the Internet, especially on the online marketing solutions side, have only a vague idea of what SEO is.

Search Engine Optimization is an important marketing strategy by which the visitors on the Internet are directed to a particular website to buy products or services.

Search Engines like Google, Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves etc play important roles in helping a website to direct buyers to its site. The major search engines use a variety of information to index and rank web pages so they appear when keywords or keyword phrases are searched.

Search Engine Optimization is not an easy task. It is the culmination of several distinct and different steps like link building, building link popularity, improving web page ranking and using well written content etc in a website.

Several key factors dictate the success of SEO. They are Content, Link Popularity, URL structures, Meta Tags etc.

Content is very important. Well-written, eminently readable content goes a long way in increasing your web page popularity. Content determines the relevancy of a page and the right key words used in the content brings up the webpage among the top 10 ,during a search. The general theory is that the more valuable content is to your users, the more valuable the content will be to your search engines. The key to writing good content is to concentrate on including the right key words and phrases. The Content should read as natural, hence do not cram the content with key words and phrases. Do not copy or duplicate content.

Link popularity is very essential for effective SEO. Use hyperlinks in the content judiciously. Link Exchange, Bookmarking of web pages etc are good strategies to improve your web page ranking and thereby build SEO.

URL Structures are significant. A page’s URL is critical for search engine optimization. Include keywords in your URL strings, and place the most important keywords at the beginning of the URL. Meta Tags are a must. One should provide page titles, meta descriptions and meta keywords for each web page and consistently use your keywords effectively. The page title is to be placed at the top of the web page. If the page is indexed, the page title will appear first for your listing in the search engine’s search results. The meta description should consist of 20-30 words that describes what the page is about, and is presented below the page title in search engines’ search results. This helps search engines know what keywords to associate with your page. Provide 3-5 keywords that are directly relevant to the page you are optimizing.

Images must be judiciously placed in the web page. Similarly every web page should not be too rich in content. This make the web page consume a lot of time to load, testing the patience of the visitor.

Search Engine Optimization is all about sensible webpage construction. If you have got the basics right, then SEO will come on automatically.

Biographies and video clips of this year’s nominees

Most consumers are told where to get their mortgage because few people personally know and trust a mortgage or loan officer or correspondent (the same thing). It used to be agents would take their buyers out to find the house they wanted, then to their favorite mortgage company. Now things are so fast and better organized. It is common practice to have the purchasers prequalified and preapproved before searching for their new home. Most agents don’t know much about finance, they leave it to the mortage company to explain it.

Probably the most important thing is comparing. I don’t understand this, unless it is young people who just don’t know. Most people compare prices of other thing; cars, gas, food. It’s not only important to check interest rates but also APR or annual percentage rate. This takes all of the mortgage company charges and breaks it down into a rate that many times is published by several in the newspaper. You can see 5.49% v 6.11%. It sounds like a little but it means a lot!

Different types of financing are available. This is something your agent should be well aware of as well as the mortgage company. I remember a time I was working with a young couple. I knew the best loan for them was a combination of FHA and a state subsidized loan. This gave them the lowest down payment and interest rate. The people at this very well known world wide mortgage company said “you can’t do that” to which I REPLIED, here is the number. I was surprised. The couple did get the house with exactly that financing. Please rate and tell friends.

The stars of classic US sitcom The Golden Girls remember actress Estelle Getty, who has died at the age of 84.

Did you know that California will the 5th state (if you include District of Columbia) to pass the cell phone law? This will present a problem for most of us in California since we depend on it so much. The law was passed Fall of 2006 and will go into effect July 1, 2008. What exactly does the legislation entail? It prohibits the use of any hand-held mobile phones while driving. Drivers who are caught chatting away on their cellular phones will be fined $20 for the first offense and will receive $50 fines for any ensuing offense.

So what’s the solution? Well, the law does give room for mobile phone chatters to use hands free kits when talking on the phone. However, older cell phones tend to lack Bluetooth technology and thus rely primarily on wired handsfree kits that come standard with the purchase of most phones.

Bluetooth Earpiece
This is probably the cheapest solution for most people. The earpiece is a simple headset that is usually placed over one ear, consisting of both the microphone and the earphone. It allows you to use it in and out of the vehicle, so you are free to go wherever you please while speaking wirelessly on the phone. Depending on its features and quality, you could find Bluetooth headsets for as cheap as $40 and as expensive as $200. The great thing about is its role as a standalone accessory. All you have to do is connect it (AKA “pair) with your Bluetooth capable mobile phone.

This hands-free device has a few disadvantages. These units contain small power cells that would need to be charged after about 6 to 8 hours of talk time. Additionally, some users complain that earpieces tend to be more uncomfortable over a long period of time. Some earpieces even give off a sort of echoing effect and could be hyper-sensitive to noise in certain road conditions. Of course, this complains may vary per brand and model-so be sure to try each one of them out, especially because there are a ton of companies now that make these.

Plug-N-Play Hands-Free Bluetooth Car Kit
These kits simply attaches to either the top of your dashboard, an air conditioning vent, or sometimes even your windshield. The plug’n'play Bluetooth kit is a device the size of your palm and usually gets power from your cigarette lighter. The palm-size kit contains both the microphone and a tiny loudspeaker. With this you don’t have to attach anything to your ear and is often loud enough to hear, even through traffic noise.

The price range on these stay pretty consistent since there are not as many variations of this type of Bluetooth interface. As of early 2008, they cost anywhere from $55-$125. The disadvantage of plug and play kits, however, is its volume. Though they may be loud, there is no sense of privacy if you have other passengers in the vehicle. Another thing to keep in mind is the quality of the speakerphone built in the mounted kit. Some speakerphones tend to blare rather than sounding clear. This occurs when you overload a small speakerphone with a ton of volume, and this is quite common with this type of devices.

Some companies who sell plug-n-play Bluetooth car kits include Parrot, Clarion, and Raytel.

In-Dash Receiver with Bluetooth
Because of advancements in Bluetooth technology, car audio companies began integrating Bluetooth technology in standard head units. This allows Bluetooth cell phones to be paired with the Bluetooth ready headunit. A phone call would mute whatever music or radio is playing and would channel the call through your vehicle’s sound system, resulting in the clearest sound from your phone. Depending on the kit, the microphone could be built in the headunit or wired (with hidden install of course) to the sunvisor. But just like the plug-n-play units, it offers no privacy since it could be heard by anyone in the vehicle.

This is probably the best solution for you if you are looking for a clean install without messy wires and if you feel uncomfortable putting something on your ear. It would also offer the best solution for you if you are looking for the best sound quality for a Bluetooth unit. If you want a built-in Bluetooth headunit, it will cost $200 or more. If you have an aftermarket stereo that is Bluetooth ready, you may just get the Bluetooth kit for that receiver. It is pricey though, costing you about $150 for just the Bluetooth interface.

I was utterly amazed with the National Geographic program My Brilliant Brain. It is amazing what our brains are capable of. After watching the program about the girl chess master it seems that we have to somehow transfer the knowledge from our short-term memory to our long-term memory. In the story when the girl was very young the girl’s father kept showing her different chess moves from the grand masters. This constant repetition instilled her chess knowledge in her long-term memory. This is not an isolated case as the father used the same approach with the younger sisters and the three girls are now all grand chess masters.

I think a similar approach is how we learn reading. When I was a kid I think the Nuns taught me synthetic phonics at school, as that was in vogue at that time. And because we didn’t have as many distractions as the kids of today, we implanted reading in our long-term memory. We did this by reading and more reading. I lived in the library and read a lot and my reading skills now are quite good. I tried a speed-reading course and because I kept at it my reading speed improved. Speed-reading came in handy when I was reading novels or fiction especially science fiction as I love reading that. With science fiction and fantasy you have to imagine what you are reading and that takes you into another realm of speed-reading. Anyway as we get older it is easier for us to read as we have had lots of practice. We have basically implanted the words in our long term memory and we can recall them instantly. I would say very similar to the girl grand chess master. She could instantly recall the many chess moves as they were implanted in her long term memory.

Also I was brought up with a pencil in one hand and to compete in the modern world I had to learn to type. Typing involves memory and with constant repetition typing just becomes second nature like reading. I can now do it without thinking but I first had to implant the different moves of my fingers over the keyboard in my long term memory. And that is where constant repetition comes inby just doing it. To start I had to force myself but over time I settled into the new typing way of not looking at the keyboard. But it did take time. These things don’t happen over night, they just happen.

Now back to reading, I will admit when I was a kid I loved reading so I was pretty close to being a bookworm. I lived in the library and I had an endless collection of books. But it all started with phonics and once I understood the code to turn the word into a sound I understood, I could read. So getting the 44 phonics sounds instilled into your child’s long-term memory is a must. But it does get complicated with the same phonic sounds having many different spellings and meanings. So it takes time but you must get all the different combinations instilled in your child’s mind. Then they must read and read to plant the phonics sounds, meanings and spellings in their long-term memory. Learning the phonics is only half the equation they must use them as they read. This second step is quite crucial so keep them reading. Get them away from the TV and computer until everything is planted in the long term memory then they can read on the computer if they like. Forget the TV if you can.

Now, my daughter had incredible problems and it was only after I started stressing phonics that she slowly improved. Every time she asked me to say a word I would break the word down into syllables and phonics. Then I would read the phonic sounds backwards so she could see the different combinations of letters. Now she is okay but it took a lot of effort on my part. So if your kids are having problems get them started on phonics as early as possible and keep reading to your kids.

US writers target American Idol

Posted on 18 July 2008 in Uncategorized by karaleesbazblog6794

Hollywood writers launch a protest against American Idol, claiming the TV talent show underpays workers.

For decades now, car people have always pushed their car stereos to the limit in order to produce the best sound possible. Our grandparents’ cars with their bulky and static-filled AM radios gave way to the FM broadcasts and cassette tape playing stereo’s of our parents. Now, car manufacturers are going digital with the use of not only CD players but satellite radio with MP3 playing compatibility.

The latest and hottest growing trend in car audio now is the idea of surround sound speaker systems. The thought behind it is to have all the speakers in your car set up exactly like that surround sound audio system you have in your living room. There is a reason why everyone wants one in their car. It simply sounds incredible. Here is how you can go about bringing that movie theater sound experience into your daily ride to work.

  • One of the first goals to check off your list is find a stereo head unit which allows you to wire in a surround-sound processor. Since the processor will be digital, your head unit needs to supply a digital signal. You will also need fiber-optic cables. They are used to transmit digital signals between the components. If you previously purchased a nice head unit but it cannot supply digital signals, get a CD changer with fiber-optic connection. Connect the processor to the CD changer but remember that unit you will not get a surround-sound effect, if you play a CD. You can always select a surround-sound processor that converts RCA signals to digital.
  • Make sure your car is equipped with a high-end CD changer and/or DVD unit that plays the software that carries the surround-sound signals.
  • You should install a five-channel amplifier that can provide power for the front speakers, the rear speakers, and the subwoofers. Each corner of the car plus the subwoofers will be separate channels.
  • The center channel should have a 4- to 6-inch midrange speaker and a tweeter. This type of combination should be in its own enclosure and placed in the center portion of the car’s dashboard.
  • You now need to install an amplifier to run the center-channel speakers. You can get away with a two-channel amplifier played bridged mono but have it contain an electronic crossover which can be outboard, or built in to the amplifiers.
  • You are now set to begin installing the speakers which will be in all four corners of the car. Some of the newer cars already have speaker locations work perfectly surround-sound setting. Older cars are a different story and will require a touch of imagination and some work. You’ll need to add a tweeter high on the pillar at shoulder height, while a midrange speaker is used in the factory-made opening in the door.
  • Now that all of your speakers are in place, set the electronic crossover for the center channel. Don’t play it at full range but opt instead for about 80 Hz and up for optimal sound quality.
  • Once everything has been installed, adjust the system to find the perfect fit of sound quality and volume for you. Play around with the amplifier gains and then the surround sound processor for any type of tweaks you may need.

Murder tale scoops Johnson prize

Posted on 18 July 2008 in Uncategorized by karaleesbazblog6794

An analysis of a gruesome 1860 murder case wins BBC Four’s Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction.

What is the best way to finance a wedding? Of course having your parents pay for everything is the easiest way, but more and more couples are financing things themselves. Whether you are a parent, the bride, or the groom, if you do not have the money already saved, getting an affordable short-term wedding loan can be a great solution if you use it wisely.

I did some research on just how much weddings cost these days. What I discovered was that there are more things to pay for than I thought there were. First you factor in the costs of the invitations, bridal gown, tuxedo and all the accessories that go along with them. Then, there is the cost of the reception including the ballroom, wedding cake, food, décor, and entertainment. Other costs include transportation services like limousines, horse and buggies, or whatever chariot you plan to arrive at the wedding and reception in. Then, there are the costs that are easily overlooked in the beginning because they are not incurred until later in the planning process such as alterations, gifts for the bridal party, rehearsal dinners, spa and specialty services, hair, makeup, and the honeymoon. These things really add up.

All of these costs can seem totally overwhelming. So what do you do? Take a breath, and create a realistic working budget. Sit down and brainstorm every little detail you can think of that will cost you money. Make sure you include the small things like the flower girl basket, ring bearer pillow, cake cutting set, and bridal champagne glasses until you come up with a complete list. Then, assign an estimated cost to every item and tally it up. After your bottom line is figured, tack on a few (or maybe few hundred or few thousand) extra bucks for incidentals to come up with a grand total. You will not know what these incidentals are when you write your list, but you will sure be glad you accounted for them later when you need money for something you had not thought of. Finally, fine tune your list by adding or subtracting the things you can and cannot afford to create your working budget.

Now that you have your working budget, it is time to finance this thing. Down payments on the cake, venue, food, or entertainment may have to be made up to a year in advance and you need to make some decisions. If your parents are not footing the bill, and you do not have the savings to get the ball rolling, a short-term, may just the thing to help you out. Whether you have excellent credit, average credit, or bad credit, there is loan product out there for you. Once you get the loan funds, put them in a special wedding account to pay bills from as they arise. Then, make sure you begin to repay your wedding loan immediately, steadily, and quickly.

The key is to use wedding finance loans wisely. Do not borrow more than you reasonably need. Do not create payments that will be difficult to repay. Try not to make your loan terms exceed your wedding date. Make all payments on time. Use cash wedding gifts to reduce or pay off your principal. And remember, extreme debt for the sake of a wedding is no way to begin a marriage, but great credit is an element both of you can benefit from to the end.
